General Industries Polymer (GIP), a sister company of Germany-based General Industries, announced its expansion into Spain.
The recycler of non-foam plastics is partnering with Birkle Recycling Solutions, a Spanish recycler specialising on expanded polystyrene.
GIP has placed shredding machines at Birkle’s headquarters in Tarragona, Spain, where the Spanish recycler will process material flows from Portugal and Spain. The plastic waste will mostly come from the automotive industry, the companies said in a statement.
"We are looking forward to a joint, sustainable cooperation with the Spanish Birkle Recycling Solutions and to the growth of GIP plastics recycling in Europe," said Isabel Gerwig, new member of the Executive Board at GIP.
GIP started operating as an independent entity from General Industries since 2023, in preparation for the acquisition of 30% of the parent’s company foam business by JSP.
General-Industries Deutschland has been collecting, sorting, compacting, and regranulating expanded polypropylene (EPP) and expanded polyethylene (EPE) waste from packaging and industrial waste from processors across Europe for over 25 years. Its production site in Eschwege, a town in Hessen, operates 25 compactors.
GIP launched its new corporate identity at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe, which took place in Amsterdam on June 19 and 20.
