Faca pivots to plant-based packaging in beauty sector

Barcelona-based packaging manufacturer Faca has launched a new line of cosmetics packaging designed to support the trend for more sustainability in this sector.

The new jars and bottles, said the company, are made from 100% plant-based raw material and are 100% recyclable. All lids and bottle caps are made from the same bio-based material.

Faca Packaging, a company positioned in the high-end and luxury segment of this industry, was founded in 1970, yet it remains as sensitive as ever to the changing needs of the market. Just last year, the company launched the T22—version refill jar, featuring a refillable goblet and available made from recyclable and recycled materials.

Its latest development, the use of polyethylene derived from sugarcane, is in response to customer and consumer demand for more sustainable packaging solutions. It is a trend, said a spokesman, in which Faca Packaging will ‘continue to take the lead to promote’, both in light of helping its customers to meet their environmental goals and at the same time to satisfy end consumers’ demands for more sustainable packaging.

To that end, the company has continuously invested in updating its machinery, equipment and processes, which has brought more efficiency to its production operations across the board - injection moulding, decoration, assembly - while substantially reducing the amount of energy consumed. Moreover,  ultra-high-speed artificial vision cameras were installed to carry out automated quality checks, for enhanced quality control and the elimination of errors.

Faca has also steadily invested in R+ D +I , and over the past 50 years, has built up a portfolio comprising over 300 active patents. It has a ‘philosophy of launching between four and five models per year,’ the company said.

All Faca’s packaging is made in Europe. The company produces jars and bottles in sizes ranging from 7ml to 250ml ( with and without an internal beaker).

Since 2019, its three production plants, complete with cleanroom facilities and office areas have all been powered by 100% renewable energy, both solar and wind, thus minimising its C02 footprint.
