Trogamid, a transparent polyamide family that has been a standby in the optical industry for over 20 years, recently gained a new member with Evonik’s launch of Trogamid eCO Impact 75.
With an optical transparency of 88%, the polyamide has several injections moulding applications, from protective eyewear to electrical or mechanical housings.
It is produced using a mass balance approach that reduces the use of fossil-based feedstock by 30%, according to a Evonik statement. Last year, Evonik launched another Trogramid eCO grade which replaces 40% of petrochemical feedstock with biomaterial.
The environmental qualifications of the material in no way affect its performance, said Evonik. It continues to provide superior chemical, crack, and break resistance properties, based on the ISO 179/1eA standard.
"Trogamid eCO Impact 75 is an example of Evonik’s long-term commitment to developing sustainable products that are both high-performing and future-oriented," said Florian Hermes, director of sustainability at Evonik’s High Performance Polymers business line.
