EcoBlue, a recycler of post-consumer and post-industrial polyolefins and PET based in Rayong, Thailand, has expanded its PET recycling capacity one year and a half after starting operations at its new plant.
The company commissioned its second Starlinger viscotec solid state polycondensation (SSP) machine to produce food-grade PET in December 2023. Following the commissioning, EcoBlue hit a yearly capacity of 30,000 tonnes of food-grade rPET.
"The successful commissioning of the Starlinger viscotec SSP is a testament to our unwavering dedication to the cause of sustainable packaging,” said Pranay Jain, CEO and Founder of EcoBlue. “This investment consolidates our position as the largest recycler of high-quality resins in Thailand, and we are well-positioned to meet the growing demands of environmentally responsible customers globally. Our goal is to foster circularity of resources by diverting post-consumer and post-industrial waste away from landfills and into the recycling stream.”
EcoBlue’s increase in production volume comes as PET recyclers in Europe reduce their capacities amid low prices and profitability.
EcoBlue’s rPET resin will be destined for manufacturing beverage bottles. Pepsi and Nestlé debuted the first 100% rPET bottles in Thailand in August 2023.
