This year, Dutch B Corp Dopper, creator of the Dopper water bottle, became the first company to create a range of reusable water bottles awarded Gold level certification from the Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute.
The Dopper bottle, designed by Rinke van Remortel, was launched on the market in 2010 and rapidly became a must-have accessory. It consists of three parts, is a bottle and cup in one and is easy to fill and easy to take apart for cleaning. A Dopper is made to be durable, practical - and recyclable.
The cup part is produced with Eastman’s Tritan Renew, a PETG containing 50% molecularly recycled content that is third-party certified to the ISCC plus standard using mass balance allocation. The rest of the bottle (the container and cap) is made with bio-based polypropylene. Manufacturing takes place in facilities that use 100% renewable energy.
Achieving Cradle to Cradle Gold certification signifies that the Dopper bottles are officially the most sustainable reusable water bottle collection on the planet. ‘From colour pigments to employee commuting, from water usage to worker’s rights, and from energy use to packaging, every last detail meets the toughest sustainability standards”, the company pointed out, ‘ready for the circular economy.’
Eastman is proud to be part of a solution that is working to lay the groundwork for a better future, acccording to Glenn Goldman, Eastman’s commercial director of specialty plastics.
“With the new Dopper Original collection, we show the industry what’s already possible: a bottle collection with a zero carbon footprint, made of 85% upcycled materials, produced in a factory that runs on 100% renewable energy and more,” said Dopper CEO Virginia Yanquilevich. “The Cradle to Cradle Gold certification shows the world that we can – and must – make sustainable choices in every part of the production process, hopefully inspiring others to follow.”
