Domo Chemicals is closing its third Biaxally Oriented PA film (BOPA) line at its Leuna plant in Germany, effective from August 2020.
The decision, said the company in a statement, was taken in the light of the current global overcapacity for nylon films.
According to Attilio Annoni, managing director at DFS, Domo has ‘opted to continue to focus on quality and flexibility through cautious and smart asset management, rather than reacting with short-term volume strategies’ in these volatile times.
All affected employees have been informed. No other operations at the Leuna plant will not be impacted by the move.
Domo is a strongly vertically integrated nylon 6 and 66 producer. The company, which acquired Solvay’s European PA66 business at the beginning of this year, says the nylon film business remains a key asset. It forms an integral part of the supply chains related to segments such as pharmaceuticals, medical, and food packaging - all of which have proven essential during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Domo has not been impacted in the support provided to customers, said Annoni. “As ever we will continue to partner with our customers in developing and supplying nylon films for high performing and sustainable flexible packaging structures.”
