Polyamide expert Domo Chemicals is now certified according to International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Plus (ISCC Plus). The certification applies to Domo’s sites in Leuna (Germany), Gorzow (Poland), and Arco (Italy).
Domo manufacturers its Technyl and Domamid polyamide 6 product lines at the sites, which incorporate different percentages of recycled content. Technyl polyamide-based solutions have applications in the automotive, electrical & electronics, building & construction, and consumer & industrial goods industries, amongst others. Domamid polyamide 6 base polymers are used to replace metals in automotive applications, reducing weight, saving energy, and simplifying the production process of high-flow materials.
“With ISCC Plus, DOMO Chemicals has taken an important step towards offering sustainable plastics using bio-circular and circular feedstock as a starting material,” said Giampaolo Buzzi, business recycling manager. “In addition, we are also progressing on new recycling technologies with the aim to facilitate the recycling of endo of life products, reinforcing our commitment to a sustainable future.”
Internationally recognised, ISCC Plus is the leading global certification system that provides supply chain transparency and traceability for sustainable feedstocks used to manufacture chemically recycled polymers. With ISCC Plus, producing companies ensure that the sustainability of their raw materials can be fully and transparently traced, from the field to the store. The certification requires companies to follow the mass balance or material segregation chain of custody models. This helps to ensure that the amount of bio-based, circular, or renewable content is tracked across the value chain.
Mass balance is not yet a recognised method to allocate recycled plastic content in the European Union, but the European Commission is considering adopting it.
