McVitie's and TerraCycle have launched a biscuit wrapper recycling competition. 'The Biscuit Wrapper Roundup' aims to cut landfill, with a £1,000 in prizes going to the people who collect the most.
“Whilst biscuit wrappers are recyclable, very little mixed plastic recycling is carried out by local council kerb side collections as they simply do not have the infrastructure,” TerraCycle said in a statement. “This results in billions of biscuit wrappers needlessly being sent to UK landfill.”
The contest runs from until 7 October 2013 and anyone interested in entering the collection contest should visit www.terracycle.co.uk and join the McVitie's Biscuit Wrapper Brigade.
The 20 top collectors will win contributions of £250, £150, £50, or £20 to their chosen school, charity or non-profit organisation. In addition, the grand prize winner and runner up will also receive a hamper of McVitie's biscuits.
