The government is seeking stakeholder views on the revised Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations coming into force on 1 January 2014.
Published this week, the consultation looks at how the government should amend the existing WEEE Regulations 2006 to ensure compliance with the recast European Union WEEE Directive 2012/19. The government will publish its response within eight weeks of the closing date of 21 June 2013.
It said: “We will take the views of all stakeholders into account. If there is support for reform of the UK WEEE system under the options set out in the consultation document, we will consult further on draft regulations.”
The government added that it intends to lay the final version of the Regulations before Parliament to come into force from 1 January 2014. It will publish the UK government guidance notes for the new regulations 10 weeks before that date.
