Austrian flexible packaging firm Constantia Flexibles has opened a new production plant in Ahmedabad, western India.
Constantia Ecoflex Ahmedabad will produce the EcoLam range of high-barrier flexible packaging that is resource-efficient and recyclable, said the company in a statement 22 Nov.
Spanning 24,500 square metres, the plant started test runs in September and currently employs 50 people. The company expects to triple the number of employees by the second quarter of 2020.
The unit will supply solutions to global costumers, according to Constantia.
Available in different barrier grades, EcoLam is a lightweight mono-PE laminate suitable for a variety of packaging applications.
Developed as part of Constantia Flexibles’ product line Ecolutions, EcoLam has a mono-material structure that ensures it is fully recyclable. Its carbon footprint is claimed to be 32% lower than that of comparable products.
The opening ceremony of the Ahmedabad plant took place in the presence of 300 guests, including the Austrian ambassador to India Brigitte Öppinger-Walchshofer, Alexander Baumgartner, CEO of Constantia Flexibles, and RS Sodhi, managing director of Amul industries and expert in the field of sustainability.
The new plant is expected to contribute significantly to Constantia’s pledge to make all its products recyclable by 2030.
