Coca-Cola continues to introduce 100% recycled PET bottles - excluding caps and labels - in markets across the world. Last year, its announcements focused in Asia, with debuts in India, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
In Indonesia, the recycled PET is supplied by PT Amandina Bumi Nusantara, a joint venture between Coca-Cola Distribution Indonesia, and Dynapack Asia, a plastic packaging company.
The recycling facility in the outskirts of Jakarta uses two Starlinger recoSTAR PET HC iV+ bottle-to-bottle recycling systems and processes 3,000 tons of collected PET bottles every month. It produces two grades of clear bottle-grade rPET pellets – one for carbonated beverages and one for spring water. In addition, the company supplies hot-washed flakes in clear and light blue colours.
“We chose Starlinger PET bottle-to-bottle recycling equipment because Starlinger is recognized as a leading provider of top-tier recycling machinery known for its exceptional performance and reliability”, said Suharji Gasali, managing director of Amandina Bumi Nusantara.
The process starts with a two-stage heating and drying process of the hot-washed flakes for optimum preparation for the extrusion process. After extrusion, thorough filtering, and underwater pelletising, the produced rPET pellets undergo vacuum treatment in the downstream SSP reactors for IV increase and highly effective decontamination that readies the pellets for food-contact applications.
PT Amandina Bumi Nusantara was the first PET recycling company to obtain the SNI Marking Product Certificate (SPPT) from the National Standardization Agency (BSN, which implements a standard for the quality of recycled PET.
