Made from pure cellulose fibres, with a PET plastic barrier, Iggesund’s Inverform has been specifically developed to replace the traditional plastic pressed and folded trays commonly used in food packaging. The material is easily thermofomed, offers good temperature resistance, good sealability, an excellent oxygen barrier from the inside, and highly effective fat barrier from the inside. Inverform is a food grade material featuring a plastic barrier that has all the required food safety certificates, including being safe for use in microwaves and conventional ovens. No optical brightening agents are used in its production.

Trays made from this material have a lower carbon footprint than conventional plastic trays and can be recycled in existing paper packaging recycling schemes.

“We were determined to come up with a renewable and recyclable material for food trays that would be more environmentally friendly than plastic, while maintaining the same high packaging performance throughout the value chain,” said Stefan Söderberg, Sales Manager, Iggesund Paperboard.

“Inverform is the first of a new product application and we are in the process of developing the next generation of barriers since there is an increasing demand for sustainable packaging solutions and the requirements are becoming tougher each year. We are continuously improving our products to help our customers with their challenges now and in the future,” he added.

Inverform is a Solid Bleached Board (SBB) made of pure cellulose fibres sourced from sustainably managed forests. The packaging, said the company, offers a lower environmental impact and meets the highest standards for food hygiene and protection, ensuring longer life and less food waste.
