Repsol has collaborated with SP Berner, a family-owned plastics processing business headquartered in Valencia, Spain on the development of a new polypropylene grade incorporating up to 50% post-consumer recycled plastic for the production of outdoor furniture.
The new Repsol Reciclex 50RXPB171 compound is especially formulated for injection moulding applications. The first product offering made from the new compound is a terrace set The material consists of a polypropylene base compound, of which half of the raw material is derived from mixed plastic waste.
According to Repsol, the technical properties required for the application have remained the same. The materials, said the company, offers excellent impact resistance properties. The companies noted that partnerships of this type are essential to promote the circular economy and to be able to offer society products that incorporate recycled content without impacting the properties or quality of the product – making customers ‘participants in responsible and circular consumption’.
