Today, we open with a cover story on Arburg’s centenary year. The company’s secret? “The 100-year history of our family company is characterised by inventiveness and daring, flashes of inspiration and business ideas, evolutionary developments and disruptive leaps, people and technology, regional ties and global growth,” Arburg Managing Director Juliane Hehl told Plastics News’ Catherine Kavanaugh.
Also on the cover: an overview of the sputtering European recycling industry, which has spent the past year confronting a combination of adverse conditions, ranging from persistent weak demand to the effect of cheap imports from Asia. Beatriz Santos of Sustainable Plastics spoke with Manfred Hackl, CEO of Erema Group, who confirmed that the situation in Europe was dismal. He emphasised, however, that other regions in the world continued to perform satisfactorily - and that signs of a recovery, although faint, were perceptible. “We see that we have already reached the bottom of the curve,” Hackl said.
