Bunting Magnetics Group is expanding its European manufacturing facilities in Redditch, outside Birmingham, the UK.
The Newton, Kansas-headquartered company, which manufactures and supplies magnetic separators, metal detectors, magnets, magnetic assemblies for various industries, including plastics, said the expansion project was driven by growing demand since its acquisition of Master Magnets in 2017.
The investment programme which started this month is expected to be completed in the autumn and will include the addition of a new production hall and office spaces.
The project will extend the existing manufacturing floor space by 50%, providing room for the building of metal separation modules for the recycling industry as well as other large machinery.
“We design and manufacture large equipment for the mining, mineral processing and recycling industries,” explained Adrian Coleman, the general manager of Bunting-Redditch. “The demand for such magnetic separation technology continues to grow and we needed to rethink our manufacturing strategy.
As part of the project, the office layout is being revamped to accommodate a growing internal team and new ‘centre of excellence’ laboratory, according to Bunting.
Billed as “one of the most advanced for magnetic separation in the world,” the laboratory in Redditch control tests samples by companies processing and mining minerals.
Three times the size of the current laboratory, the new centre of excellence will feature designated areas for both wet and dry testing.
