Borealis is set to acquire a 100% stake in Integra Plastics AD, a Bulgarian plastics mechanical recycler specialised in polyolefins. Closing of the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
Located in Elin Pelin, a town in central western Bulgaria, Integra Plastics produces post-consumer recycled Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), and Polypropylene granules (PP) of various colours, with a yearly capacity of 30,000 tonnes. Borealis said in a statement that the recyclates are suitable for ‘demanding’ applications.
“The addition of Integra Plastics AD will strengthen our ability to deliver on our advanced mechanical recycling ambition and enable our customers to meet their sustainability targets,” said Lucrèce Foufopoulos, Borealis executive vice president polyolefins, circular economy solutions and innovation & technology.
The move comes after Borealis closed the acquisition of Rialiti S.p.A, a PP compounder of recyclates based in the Varese area of Italy.
