Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has appointed Henk Alssema as the new chairman of the BIR Plastics Committee.
Alssema is the chairman of Dutch recycling company Vita Plastics and has been active in plastics recycling since 1994.
He has successfully started up a number of plastics recycling companies and restructured a publicly listed company as its CEO, according to a 4 April release by BIR.
As the chairman of Leek-based Vita Plastics, Alssema is currently focused on developing a new vision for the company based on the circular economy principles and centred on multiple value creation.
Established in 2016, Vita Plastics is a supplier of regrinds, regranulate and recycle-content compounds.
“I… strongly believe that both BIR and the plastics recycling industry will greatly benefit from his [Alssema’s] vision, leadership and industry experience of nearly 25 years that he brings with him,” said BIR president Ranjit Baxi commenting on the appointment.
Founded in 1948 in Brussels, BIR covers different recycling streams, including paper, metals, tries and plastics.
The association represents over 760 member companies from the private sector and 36 national associations in more than 70 countries.
