Biffa has reopened its mixed plastics recycling plant in Wilton following a £500,000 investment. According to the company, many of the 30 staff who were laid off in January when the plant closed have been reinstated
The company's management said in a statement that they were “extremely confident” that the £4m facility will be a viable operation following the upgrade. The aim is to get the site up to full capacity by the end of the summer.
Biffa Polymers' commercial director, Chris Hanlon, told local media: “We've already re-employed a lot of the people we made redundant and we're in the process of employing more.”
He said the principal cause of the closure was the inconsistent quality of feedstock. The site has now secured a better quality supply, which Hanlon said will enable the company to produce a better quality finished product.
