Although recognised as recyclable in 2021 by the Association for Plastic Recyclers (APR) in North America, the SimpliCycle valve developed by dispensing expert Aptar Food + Beverage had not yet gained full approval in Europe - until now. The company announced Friday that it had received approval for its SimpliCycle TPE-S valve from RecyClass. The valve was assessed as being fully compatible with PP, PET and HDPE recycling streams.
RecyClass is a non-profit, cross-industry initiative facilitating the transition toward a circular plastic economy, managed by Plastics Recyclers Europe.
Among others, it has published Design for Recycling Guidelines and it also conducts evaluations of a variety of products in partnership with independent laboratories to assess the product’s ability to be recycled. Aptar’s SimpliCycle valve previously received European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) Endorsement for full compatibility with RecyClass Guidelines for PET stream, and now has also received full compatibility approval for recyclability in PP and HDPE streams. Customers opting for Aptar closures featuring SimpliCycle valves can be certain that they are enabling full packaging recyclability. Aptar’s SimpliCycle valves will be commercially available globally at the end of 2022.
