Amcor plc's $8.4 billion takeover of Berry Global Group Inc. has cleared another hurdle.
The two plastic packaging makers indicated March 11 the waiting period required under the U.S. federal Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust act has expired without government objection.
"Expiration of the waiting period satisfies another closing condition necessary for completing the combination," the companies said in a statement.
As a merger of two companies that have global operations, the transaction still has to receive additional regulatory approvals, but the firms noted antitrust clearances also recently have been received from China and Brazil.
"Progress toward obtaining remaining regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions is well advanced. The companies continue to expect transaction close in the middle of calendar year 2025," the companies said.
The all-stock transaction will combine Amcor and its 212 locations and 41,000 employees with Berry's network of more than 200 locations and 34,000 employees.
