Global packaging producer and specialist in recycling, Austria-based Alpla Group, is introducing a new label under which the company will produce and market its range of renewably-sourced, biodegradable packaging solutions.
“We see the establishment of our own label which includes all of our products made from biodegradable materials as a clear commitment to our activities in this future market. They are a recyclable addition to our existing packaging solutions,” said Nicolas Lehner, CCO of the ALPLA Group and responsible for global sales.
The Blue Circle Packaging initiative is a further step on Alpla’s pathway towards a functioning circular economy. Its research into the use of alternative materials made of renewable raw materials - Replace - is one of the approaches it had adopted to achieve this goal.
The first product to be marketed under the new label are the company’s injection-moulded home compostable coffee capsules. The capsules are TÜV certified and bear both the OK Compost HOME and OK Compost INDUSTRIAL label.
The Blue Circle coffee capsules are produced through a start-up called Blue Circle Coffee, founded by Alpla and two partners, coffee roaster Amann Kaffee and a consultancy firm called Silberball. The joint venture offers roasting houses and smaller coffee suppliers extensive expertise in roasting, filling, packaging and marketing coffee in home-compostable coffee capsules. Consumers can also order three different varieties of Blue Circle coffee via an integrated web shop.
