Responding to strong demand from the record industry, Albis and Greenyl, an Italian manufacturer of sustainable “vinyl”, have developed an eco-friendly solution that significantly reduces the carbon footprint of Greenyl’s records. By choosing a material, a Skypet CR grade from Albis' partner SK Chemicals that is not only recyclable but also has chemically recycled content, Greenyl is also making a contribution to the circular economy.
Greenyl was searching for a way to counteract the high environmental impact resulting from traditional production with pressed PVC. Containing up to 99 percent chemically recycled PET waste, the use of Skypet CR saves 7.1kg CO2e/kg compared to PVC. Moreover, the records can also be fully recycled and reused.
“The solution Albis provided allows us to take another step on our sustainability journey without compromising any technical requirements of the manufacturing process”, said Luca Terenzi CEO and Production Manager at Greenyl. “Our choice to use material that is both recyclable and already recycled clearly demonstrates how the material loop can be closed with the right ambition.”
“Skypet CR even enables hard-to-recycle plastic waste to be returned to the material stream, resulting in an overall higher recycling rate as well as a reduced dependency and use of emission-intensive material”, added Stephan Schoen, Senior Director Product Management at Albis. The Greenyl vinyl records will be on display at Albis’ booth in Hall B4.
