Berlin-based Alba Group has signed a cooperation agreement with the Japanese private waste management company SEIU Japan Ltd to form a joint venture to build and operate a post-consumer PET recycling plant in Tokyo.
The proposed plant will have the capacity to produce 35 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of PET flakes and pellets and is expected to start operation by 2020, Alba announced 21.
This will be the German recycling specialist’s first plant in Japan.
The agreement was signed during a trip by Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller to Tokyo on 20 May.
“The joint venture is to combine the strength of Japan’s leading private waste management company with the leading recycling technology of Alba,” said Axel Schweitzer, ALBA Group CEO.
The Alba Group provides recycling and waste management services and had a turnover of €1.8bn in 2017.
The company collects and recycles products, including plastics and paper as part of its environmental services.
