Valencia-based Aimplas, the Spanish Plastics Technology Centre, has been recognised as a Din Certco testing laboratory by TÜV Rheinland, an independent European certification body in the bioplastics market. Its laboratories are now certified to carry out the tests that will allow companies to obtain the DIN Industrial Compostable, DIN Home Compostable and DIN Biodegradable in Soil labels. In addition, the centre was also recognised by US-based BPI to carry out the tests that allow it to issue compostability certifications.
Aimplas had already received similar certifications from ENAC, the Spanish National Accreditation Body, and TÜV Austria in 2017 and 2019, respectively. The certifications recognise the capacity of Aimplas laboratories to carry out tests in accordance with the EN 13432 standard to issue ecolabels that certify that a product is biodegradable or compostable in different environments (industrial, domestic composting or biodegradation in soil) without adverse effects on the environment.
“Thanks to these certifications or eco-labels, companies can prove that their products are environmentally sustainable in the main global markets since the four entities that have recognized the capabilities of Aimplas are the ones that enjoy the broadest recognition worldwide and the ones that have the most companies demand,” the centre said in a statement.
In 2021, Aimplas also gained accreditation to perform a series of tests to ensure that exports of plastic waste comply with the Basel Convention.
