A smouldering fire broke out last Saturday at the Af-Color plant in the industrial area Scheid 27, Niederzissen in Germany, the company has reported. No one was injured, although some limited ‘thermal damage’ occurred. Soot damage, in the form of particles and flue condensates that have settled on surfaces throughout the plant, has temporarily disrupted production operations at the plant. Both production equipment and warehouse inventory are affected.
Only the street-side facing section of the hall has escaped from contamination by these deposits.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing, but there are no indications of arson or a technical defect in the equipment.
Af-Color and its parent company, Akro-Plastic are still assessing when production can be restarted and have as yet not been able to state whether and to what extent deliveries will be affected. No is it clear whether production at Akro-Plastic’s plants in Germany, Brazil or China will be affected.
The masterbatches produced at Af-Color are used by Akro-Plastic worldwide in the production of its compounds.
Af-Color was founded in 2003 as a branch of Akro-Plastic GmbH and specialises in additive, colour and black concentrates for the finishing or colouring of plastics (so-called masterbatches). Since 2004, the company has been operating under its own name in the internationally active Feddersen Group with headquarters in Hamburg.
