Aduro Clean Technologies, a Canadian technology company that has developed a chemical conversion technology able to recycle plastic waste into feedstocks for the production of new plastics or transportation fuels, has announced that it is establishing a European subsidiary. Called Aduro Clean Technologies Europe BV (ACTE), the company said it had selected the Brightlands Chemelot Campusbased in Geleen, Netherlands as the site for the new venture because of its existing partnerships both with Brightlands and with the Chemelot Innovation and Learning Labs. The campus is a partner of the Chemelot Circular Hub, an alliance of companies collaborating on accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
“Brightlands Chemelot Campus is proud to welcome Aduro Clean Technologies,” said Karen Scholz, business development manager at Brightlands Chemelot Campus. “We are excited to see how their presence will enrich our campus and contribute to the advancement of sustainable practices in Europe.”
Aduro’s patented hydrochemolytic process for plastics upcycling is a water-based chemical conversion process that the company says is energy-efficient, modular and scalable. The new European subsidiary will focus on advancing the process for plastics upcycling within the European market, serving as Aduro's European hub and ‘a conduit for achieving strategic goals in the region’. Plans have been announced for the construction of a future demonstration unit at the Brightlands site. Aduro is currently in partnership discussions with local stakeholders on the project.
The company aims to build a consortium of local partners to support the demonstration unit's buildout and accelerate the technology's commercialisation.
A subsidiary in Europe will also enable Aduro to take advantage of the local and European government grants available, to further support the demonstration and commercialisation of the technology.
Aduro has already started recruiting a European team and said it is in ‘advanced discussions to bring on board key personnel.’
"Establishing a European hub is a significant stride in our strategic journey," said Ofer Vicus, CEO of Aduro. "It will not only allow us to better engage and serve our stakeholders in the region but also act as a catalyst for several strategic goals we have in Europe. We are very grateful for the collaborative partnerships we have already formed in the Netherlands such as the one we have with Brightlands, and we look forward to continuing to work together with our partners and to strengthen new regional partnerships to advance the circular economy and promote sustainable practices.”
