A UK leading bread and flour brand, Hovis, has launched a bread bag recycling scheme in partnership with recycling and collection experts TerraCycle.
The Bread Bag Recycling Programme scheme involves collection points at most major retail stories where consumers can recycle all their Hovis or any other LDPE bread packaging.
Additionally, consumers can register as “a private collector” which allows them to collect used bread bags at home and then access free postage labels to post them to TerraCycle for recycling.
A recent research commissioned by Hovis suggests that nearly a third of people find recycling challenging as they are unsure of what can be recycled.
Figures given by UK recycling charity RECOUP also suggest that only 10% of local authorities currently recycle bread bags.
Through its partnership with TerraCycle, Hovis said it aimed to make it easier for people to recycle used bread bags from home or within their community.
