Nestlé SA has announced ambition to make 100% of its packaging recyclable or re-usable by 2025.
The Vevey, Switzerland-based company said its vision was that none of its packaging, including plastics, would end up in landfill or as litter.
As part of this, Nestlé said it was committed to playing “an active role” in collection, sorting and recycling schemes across the countries where it operates.
Additionally, the Swiss food and drinks company said it would work with its value chain partners and industry associations to develop recyclable packaging and reduce plastic usage.
As part of the initiative, Nestlé said it would label its plastic product packaging with recycling information to help consumers dispose of it in the right way.
"Plastic waste is one of the biggest sustainability issues the world is facing today… We are committed to finding improved solutions to reduce, re-use and recycle,” said Nestlé CEO Mark Schneider.
Nestlé's ambition, he added, was to achieve 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025.
