Rotterdam-based chemical giant LyondellBasell and SUEZ, a Parisian specialist in smart, sustainable resource management, have announced that they have formed a joint venture making each company a 50 / 50 partner in Quality Circular Polymers (QCP), a premium plastics recycling company in Sittard-Geleen, the Netherlands.
The joint business will leverage the two partners' strengths, with SUEZ contributing technology to improve the identification, separation and preparation of the feedstock materials at QCP and LyondellBasell its expertise in the area of plastic production technology and product development, together with its knowledge of end markets, such as consumer goods, where the company has a strong presence.
The QCP plant will recycle post-consumer waste plastic into ‘virgin-replacement quality' PE and PP materials. The plant currently has capacity to produce an annual 25,000 metric tons of polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This is projected to rise to 35,000 metric tons later in 2018, reaching 100,000 metric tons by 2020.
LyondellBasell will add QCP's recycled products to its range of existing PE and PP materials to help meet increasing customer demand for recycled products.
Both QCP and SUEZ will be attending the Plastics Recycling Show Europe, 24 - 25 April 2018, in Amsterdam.
