Waste Free Oceans foundation has launched the English translation of a children's book “Plastian The Little Fish” in order to raise awareness within the young generation about marine litter.
The Belgian foundation, which collects and upcycles floating ocean plastic, said on 21 Nov that the book, written by Nicole Intemann, is ideal for kids ages 5-10 and printed on recycled paper.
The colourful pages depict the story of a brother and sister who embark on a sea adventure and become concerned by the amount of marine litter in the water.
With the help of Plastian and his animal friends, they construct a trawl to collect the floating debris.
Readers of the book are encouraged to submit their ideas to WFO on how to best address the issue of marine litter, with an award for the best suggestions.
The book, originally written in German, has been translated into English and French. WFO expects to introduce Dutch and Italian translations in the near future.
The translated book, which was made possible with the help of Entplast, Linpac Group and the British Plastics Foundation, is published in Brussels and supplied to the UK market from there.
