The European Plastics Convertors (EuPC) has welcomed recent move by the European Commission to release its “roadmap on the strategy for plastics”, saying it looked forward to sharing its expertise with policy makers.
The European document, which is part of the EU's Circular Economy Package, was published on a 26 January and outlines key issues within the plastics industry along the entire value chain.
In a statement on 6 February, the EuPC said the roadmap offered “a broad perspective” that considered the latest technology and role of both the consumer and industry.
The EuPC welcomed calls for clearer standards and sustainability framework on biodegradability and oxo-fragmentable plastics to reduce the pollution of current plastic recycling streams in Europe.
“The EuPC is looking forward to sharing its expertise with policymakers and contributing to an in-depth understanding of the complexity of the plastics value chain,” said the body which represents more than 50,000 companies
“The time has come for all stakeholders to discuss and find solutions on how European regulators can further develop the plastics industry's potential in Europe whilst at the same time implement a true circular plastics economy,” added EuPC managing director Alexandre Dangis.
