CSM company Purac is teaming up with Rotec, a subsidiary of Russian business giant Renova, to look at creating a PLA supply chain in Russia.
The two companies will evaluate feedstock availability within Russia and examine whether the venture would be economically feasable, says Purac.
“Rotec, responsible for Renova's new technologies, intends if the feasibility study is positive, to build a Russian sugar-to-plastic infrastructure,” spokesperson Julia Lovett told European Plastics News.
Rotec will analyse potential agricultural land as well as production locations, while Purac will look at the available feedstock-to-PLA technologies.
The report will also look at the size of the potential set-up, said Lovett.
